Wat Tham Klong Pane , a transquil forest monastery outside of town located at the foot of the Phu Phan mountain chain 13 kilometers from Nong Bua Lam Phu, is peaceful and ideal place for those who seek mental tranquility. The temple used to be the meditation place for the famous Phra Achan Luang Pu Khao Analayo who is revered by Thais nationwide. In the temple grounds, there are a cave housing an ancient two faced drum, a stone engraved Buddha image. And the Luang Pu Khao Museum where a collection of his utensils and a statue of Luang Pu Khao as well as his wax figure are displayed for Buddhists to see and worship.The temple is very peaceful with a large area and covered with shady trees and natural rock formations. It is most suitable for meditation.

 

 
King Naresuan the Great shrine

 

        This shrine is in the The King Naresuan public park. It commemorates the time when King Naresuan the Great of the Ayutthaya period led his troops to Nong Bua Lam Phu in 1574 on the way to helping the king of Hongsawadi fight the city of Si Sattana Khanahut.


 

 Million-year-old shell fossils

 

        Nong Bua Lam Phu is a scenic province famous for its prehistoric sites. This archaeological site is approximately 10 kilometres from town on the Nong Bua Lam Phu-Udon Thani road. Mollusk fossils have been found here buried in sandstone. The fossilised shells are about 140-150 million years old.


 

 

Namtok Thao To Forest Park

 

        This is 3 kilometres from town on the way to Udon Thani. A road here runs through a mountain. There is a small waterfall covered with large, shady trees. 

 

Chao Pu Lup Shrine is worshipped by the locals. Cars passing the shrine usually honk their horn as a sign of respect and for good luck on their journey.

 

Phra Wo Phra Ta City shrine

 

        This shrine is beside Road No. 210 (Nong Bua Lam Phu-Udon Thani). It was built to honor Nong Bua Lam Phu's founder.

 

 Pottery-making at Ban Khong Sawan

          This pottery village is 17 kilometres from town on the way to Udon Thani. The villagers here migrated from Ban Wang Thua, Amphoe Nam Phong, Khon Kaen. The village specialty is making pottery with designs similar to that in Ban Chiang and using traditional techniques.

Erawan Cave
is a huge cave in Amphur Nawang. Its entrance is very much higher than ground level and curving stairway of 630 steps ascends from the base of the hill to the mouth of the cave.  A very long stairway leads up to the cavern, where a large Buddha sits at the entrance.The interior resembles a large hall, capable of accommodating hundreds of people. Erawan Cave Stalagmites and stalactites create an exotic beauty which is well worth a visit. The cave has an opening onto a high cliff overlooking the picturesque fields below.

Phu Pha Ya Archaeological Site 

 

        This is north of Ban Na Charoen in Tambon Dong Mafai. In Wat Phu Pha Ya Thammasathit are prehistoric drawings on a mountain. The drawings are of red paint and depict geometric figures, animals, palm prints,and humans.They date from 2,000-3,000 yearsago.

 

 Wat Tham Suwannakhuha

 

        This temple is around 5 kilometres from the district office. A Buddha image built by Phra Chaiyachetthathirat of Vientiane in 1555 is here. It was built at the same time as Phra Chao Ong Tu and Luang Pho Phra Sai in Nong Khai province.

Kud Kwang Soi - Kud Ko Mei Archaeological Site


   Non Sung District is famous for Kud Kwang Soi  Archaeological site.The local people call " Non Don Klang " which is about 600 metres from Kud Kwang Soi village to the west. And at Kud Ko Mei village found human skeleton fossils,ancient axe & potteries about 2500 years back in Tawarawadee and LanChang period.



 Phu Kao Phupan Kham National Park , a beautiful nature reserve found , covering 320 square kilometres, including a large lake formed by Ubon Ratana Dam, which is a popular fishing area. Phu Phan Kham is a part of Phu Phan mountain range. Stretching north to south, it divides Nong Bua Lam Phu and Khon Kaen. The view of the lake at Ubonrat Dam is magnificent. Tourists frequently overnight near the park office beside the lake.

Wooden Shrine ,the locals call Sim Mai, this unigue wooden shrine is the only one in The Northeast region, located in Charoen SongTham Temple , Don Po village, Nongbua Tai Sub district.The entire temple is built with wood with the impression of the PhayaNaga wood carving.
